FAQs

What do you do?

We are SÖNMUN, a small brand of handmade art pieces and rugs. It was founded in 2022 and we are based in Algarve, south of Portugal. Check our About Us page to know more about who we are.

What kind of materials do you use?

All the art pieces are made with a tufting gun and we use acrylic yarn, a mix of wool and nylon on a high quality polyester tufting cloth.

Where do you work?

We create every piece in our workshop in Algarve, Portugal.

Do you work on commission projects?

Yes we do! Check our Bespoke page and let us know what’s your idea. We’ll be thrilled to work with you!

How long doest it take to make a tufting art piece?

It completely depends on the size and detail of the piece.

Tufting a rug could take only a few hours if it’s a small piece, but when working on a large piece, tufting takes several days. Once the tufting is done, the rug will be secured with glue and attached to its backing which takes a full day to dry.

After the glue has dried, we take the rug off the tufting cloth to finish it.

We trim the art piece and we use scissors to clear the sides as well. Finally, we apply a label with the name of our brand.

This whole process takes two days.

How do I take care of my art piece?

All our art pieces are handmade and cannot be machine washed.

Tufted wool rugs release some fibers during the first months. Don't panic! These fibers are the excess of yarn and it will disapear over time.

Remove the excess of fibers with your hand or use a lint roller or a vacuum cleaner.

For the cleaning, don't apply any products and in case of stain use a damp cloth.

Do Not Machine Wash!

If you plan to transport your artwork, wrap your artwork well and be sure to put a heavy piece of cardboard over the front and back to protect it.

Do not cover your framed work with plastic for long periods of time. If there is humidity in the air, they may start to grow mold.
